LE LAB by Estelle

[vc_row][vc_column width=”5/6″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]In vain, we must admit that Aix-en-Provence is a city where culture is in the spotlight. The Grand Théâtre de Provence, the Jeu de Paume Theater, the Flibustier, the 3 cinemas of the city, the Art Center Caumont, the Granet Museum … and, since 2006, Le Pavillon Noir. This national choreographic center designed in reinforced concrete is the work of the architect Rudy Ricciotti. A contemporary building designed to house the Ballet Preljocaj (Angelia Preljocaj’s contemporary dance company). It is therefore in this cube of 3000m2 that we find four rehearsal rooms and a theater in the basement. And it must be said that the program is well provided, there is as much for small as for large. So what are you waiting for to see more closely what hides this architectural UFO?

I had the pleasure of attending the performance of the show “STIL” Christian UBL Saturday, March 4. Not being a contemporary dance specialist I left the chance to chance for the choice of the show. And for once, luck has done things right.

A REPRESENTATION WITH ” STIL “

This work, which brings together 6 dancers and 2 musicians, is an artistic UFO. For this creation Christian UBL was inspired by the Jugendstil movement. Initiated by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele at the end of the 19th century, this Art Nouveau advocates the freedom of body and desire. The body and the thought is released and gives way to our animal side.
This creation is quite fascinating. It can shock, disturb, make laugh or even think, it is nonetheless an artistic gem.

I loved the costumes, the staging, the music but what caught me most was the body language. Each movement, each expression tells a story and takes us to the heart of Christian UBL’s universe.
I loved discovering this 2017 creation by an artist in residence. I had never had the opportunity to go to the Black Lodge and I must admit that I was not disappointed. The industrial spirit of the architecture, the quality of the representation and the efficient equipment completely seduced me.

One thing for sure is that I will stay connected, to be informed of the program of each season.
